Highlighting the February School Board Meeting at Waynesboro Public Schools!
February was School Board Appreciation Month. We acknowledged and appreciated the Waynesboro School Board for being the guiding heart of our education system! Special recognition went to Mrs. Vonda Hutchinson, Clerk of the Board, and Mrs. Teresa Floyd, Deputy Clerk of the Board, as February is also School Board Clerk Appreciation Month. In addition a special thank you to Ms. Addison Copeland, for her valuable input and commitment to the school board! Kudos was given to Ms. Angela Mickens, recognized as one of the 2024 NAA's Next Generation Honorees of AfterSchool Leaders. Additionally, the meeting featured School Program Presentations from KCMS Check-In Check-Out, KCMS On the Road Collaborative with a special student spotlight from Levi Williams, and WHS Black Student Union. Thank you for sharing your impactful initiatives with us! Waynesboro Public Schools is proud to have had such dedicated individuals shaping the future of education in our community. In accordance with the Virginia Literacy Act, Waynesboro Public Schools is conducting a reading curriculum adoption for grades K-5. The reading programs under review are: CKLA- Amplify, Harcourt- Open Court, SAVVAS- My View, OpenUp- Bookworms, and Houghton-Mifflin- Into Reading. Sample materials are available for review by request. Please contact the WPS Instruction Department at 540-946-4600 if you are interested in reviewing these materials.

In celebration of National Weather Person's Day on 2/5/24, Launch post-high students had an unforgettable experience with a personalized tour of the NBC29 WVIR studios, all thanks to the amazing meteorologists Eric Pritchett and Josh Fitzpatrick! During the tour, students got an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the magic that happens in the studio - from understanding how the cameras and lights work to witnessing the fascinating world of the Green Screen. 🎬
Exciting Educational Adventure at the Wayne Theatre! 🌟
Waynesboro High School Africana Studies students had an incredible experience at the historic Wayne Theatre, diving deep into the rich history of Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad. Big shoutout to Corey Holmes, the Wayne Theatre Education Director, for taking the time to visit the class beforehand and providing essential background knowledge. Corey enlightened students about what they were about to witness, sharing insights into African theatre and the profound history of segregation and integration at the Wayne Theatre. 🎭🌍
