WAYNESBORO – Waynesboro Public Schools is excited to announce the hiring of Gage Wood as the new head baseball coach at Waynesboro High School. Wood brings a blend of extensive playing experience, and a passion for the game that is sure to elevate the program.
Gage Wood, a native of Fishersville, VA, is no stranger to the baseball community in the Shenandoah Valley. A graduate of Wilson Memorial High School (WMHS), Wood was a standout athlete, playing four years of varsity baseball. His talent and dedication earned him a spot on the Ferrum College baseball team, where he continued to develop his skills and love for the game.
Wood’s coaching career began shortly after his playing days. He has spent the last four years as an assistant varsity coach, with three of those years at WMHS and one at Waynesboro High School. His coaching credentials also include head coaching positions with Valley Venom 18U Baseball and Virginia Canes 13U Baseball, where he has guided young athletes to success both on and off the field.
“I am thrilled to take on the role of head baseball coach at Waynesboro High School,” says Wood. “Baseball has always been a significant part of my life, and I’m eager to share my knowledge and passion with our student-athletes. I believe in building a strong team that excels on the field and in life.”
When he’s not on the baseball field, Gege Wood enjoys spending quality time with his family and dogs, playing golf, and working on baseball field maintenance-another testament to his dedication to the sport. His personal connection to the community and his commitment to fostering a positive and competitive environment make him an ideal leader for Waynesboro High School’s baseball program.
