Waynesboro – May 14, 2024 (For immediate release): Waynesboro Public Schools proudly announces the appointment of Joshua Herndon as Assistant Principal of Waynesboro High School, effective July 1, 2024. Mr. Herndon fills the vacancy created by Melissa Cobb’s promotion to the Director of Talent Development earlier this year. Mr. Herndon’s appointment reflects the division's steadfast dedication to fostering excellence in education.

Bringing a distinguished background in education, Mr. Herndon returns to Waynesboro with a breadth of experience. Previously serving as a high school principal in Ohio and currently holding the position of Talent Development Coordinator for Charlottesville City Schools, Mr. Herndon has demonstrated a proven commitment to educational leadership. His journey in education includes roles as a Social Studies educator at Buffalo Gap High School, followed by appointments as Assistant Principal at Westwood Hills Elementary School and later at Kate Collins Middle School, where he served as both Assistant Principal and Principal.

"I am deeply passionate about leadership and cultivating a culture of excellence rooted in shared core values," Mr. Herndon remarked. "I firmly believe in the power of teamwork, continuous improvement, and prioritizing the needs of others first. Effective leadership, to me, is synonymous with servant leadership."

Mr. Herndon holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education (Integrated Social Studies) from Kent State University, a Master’s of Science Degree in Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment from Walden University, and has earned a leadership endorsement from James Madison University. Currently pursuing his doctoral studies at Youngstown State University, his research focuses on Educational Leadership and the Superintendency.

Dr. Jeffrey Cassell, Superintendent of Waynesboro Public Schools, expressed his confidence in Mr. Herndon's appointment, stating, "We are thrilled to welcome Josh back to Waynesboro. His dynamic leadership style and unwavering commitment to student success make him an invaluable addition to our administrative team. Mr. Herndon's collaborative approach will complement the exceptional work of Principal Bryan Stamm and Katrina Lassiter and Katie Ford, Assistant Principals at Waynesboro High School."

The Waynesboro School Board eagerly awaits the contributions of Mr. Herndon, anticipating that his expertise will further enhance the educational experience for students and continue to foster a culture of excellence within the school division.
