Waynesboro Public Schools Announces Administrative Appointments

Waynesboro – April 9, 2024 (For immediate release): At the monthly meeting of the Waynesboro School Board, two esteemed educators were appointed to key leadership roles within the division, further bolstering the commitment to excellence in education. Michelle Shiflett has been appointed as the Assistant Principal for William Perry Elementary School, while Dana Folks will assume the role of Assistant Principal for Kate Collins Middle School. Both Dr. Shiflett and Mrs. Folks are set to officially commence their duties on July 1, 2024.

Dr. Michelle Shiflett brings a wealth of experience and dedication to her new role. A long-serving member of Waynesboro Public Schools, Dr. Shiflett's journey within the division has been marked by a steadfast commitment to professional growth and service. Beginning as an aide, she progressed through various roles including teaching 2nd and 3rd grade, serving as a Reading Specialist, and assuming administrative responsibilities before being appointed Assistant Principal. Dr. Shiflett holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Mary Baldwin University in English with a minor in Elementary Education, a Master’s of Education Degree from Mary Baldwin University in reading, and a Doctorate from Liberty University with a focus on Educational Leadership and Supervision PK-12.

Equally distinguished is Mrs. Dana Folks, whose extensive background in education makes her an invaluable addition to the administrative team. With prior experience in Staunton City Schools, Corpus Christi, TX, and Augusta County Schools, Mrs. Folks has garnered years of expertise as a Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher. Her notable achievements include presenting at national conferences, curriculum development, active involvement with FCCLA, and fostering positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues. Mrs. Folks holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Bridgewater College in Family and Consumer Sciences and a Master’s Degree from James Madison University in Educational Leadership.

Dr. Jeffrey Cassell, Waynesboro’s superintendent, expressed his confidence in the newly appointed assistant principals, stating, “Dr. Shiflett and Mrs. Folks are collaborative, servant leaders who will partner with teachers and parents to meet the unique academic, social/emotional, and behavioral needs of the students at William Perry and Kate Collins. Their leadership will complement the outstanding work of Dr. Sharon Barker, the principal of William Perry, and our administrative team at Kate Collins, which includes Principal Marcy Nester, along with Assistant Principals Amy Christian and Ryan McLaughlin.”

The Waynesboro School Division eagerly anticipates the contributions of Dr. Shiflett and Mrs. Folks to its administrative team, further enriching the educational experience for students and fostering a culture of excellence within the division.
