Substitute Program

Thank you for your interest in Waynesboro Public Schools. Waynesboronatienterest. Our Substitute Program is very important expected to perform in the place of the PUBLIC SCHOOLS regularly scheduled employee so that instruction and other work continues a little community with GIANT opportunitites during their absence. We believe our Substitute Program adds a positive influence for our schools making it a GIANT opportunity for our community and students.

We currently have substitute opportunities in all areas:

Teacher, Instructional Aide, Special Education Aide, Bus Driver, Bus Aide, Car/Van Driver, School Custodian, School Nutrition Assistant, & Nurse with LPN, RN, EMT, & BLS CPR/AED Certification(s).

Please Read the Following Instructions Carefully

Waynesboro Public Schools is committed to cultivating strong partnerships throughout our community and providing quality learning environments and school facilities. Our Substitute Program is an integral part of that process.

There are three steps that must be taken to become a substitute in Waynesboro Public Schools.

Step #1: 

Candidates are required to print and complete ALL the forms in the folder below, or you may pick up a printed copy of the forms at the Central Office, located at 301 Pine Ave, Waynesboro.

Step #2: 

Candidates must schedule an appointment. When all of the forms have been fully completed, contact Sheila Torain at 540-946-4600 ext. 8119 to schedule an appointment to process your paperwork.  Mailed paperwork will not be accepted. 

What to bring to your appointment:

  • All completed forms from Step #1

  • Personal Identification: Review the Employment Eligibility Verification Form (I-9) and bring 1 item from List A, or 1 item from List B and 1 item from List C

  • Proof of College Degree: Copy of diploma or transcript (if applicable

  • Voided Check, or Bank Deposit Form, to sign up for Direct Deposit

Step #3:

ALL candidates will be required to complete a Virginia State Police/FBI Fingerprint and Social Services Child Protective Services Registry Background Check. This will be completed at our Central Office during the scheduled appointment to review and submit your paperwork.
